Cearbhall you are so right! Yes I am using a desktop but wouldn't have
reason to use this key much. I did put on the JAWS help mode but still
couldn't find it, I expect my patience ran out!

Are you using a desktop PC? If so, the "equals" key is usually the one
immediately to the left of the back space key at the top right corner of the
main qwerty keyboard.
I think it is the same on a laptop keyboard. If you put your screen reader
in keyboard help mode (using numpad insert plus number 1 on the main
keyboard), you will hear what each key is without activating it before you
have found the equals key.
