Hi John
Again, sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know, but would loading the
file and tapping along with it using "h" on the metronome get you there? In my
limited experience, the tempo you tap is registered in the edit box of the
Project Settings dialogue.
Pasted below is an extract from the article "Making Your First Recording" in
Reaper Accessibility Wiki.
Cheers,
Dave
Turn the metronome on by pressing Control+Shift+M. As with many things in
Reaper, that's a toggle. Take a moment to fix the tempo of the song you're
going to record in your mind, then place your finger on the H key and tap out
the tempo. Now if you press Space to start playing, you'll hear the metronome
running at the speed that you just tapped. Play along with the click for a
while to make sure it’s at the right tempo. Pressing Space again will stop the
transport. Press W or Control+Home to make sure that you’re at the beginning of
the timeline, and guess what? You're ready to record!

Hi Dave and thanks for taking the time to give me the link and paste in the
info. Unfortunately, my case is that I don't know the BPM of the file I'm
importing so that's a different kettle of fish I think.
Any more thoughts?

Hope it's helpful. I guess you can count your two bars with the

here's the link to the main page, on which you'll find a link to the

So a client asked you to record a solo, a voice, whatever, over a track
that has already been produced, such as a backing track, or the rest of
the band, for example. Before we record anything, We need to set the
tempo first.
ensure you have a blank project open and press alt enter to open the
project properties dialog the first thing you will find are the various
tabs. Makes sure that the left most one is selected: project settings
tab tab about six times and set the bpm. You can also set the time signature
here.
press enter to save your changes.
and now for the importing and recording process itself:
ensure you are at the start of the project or at a place you feel at
ease when recording. Most people like to leave a two bar empty space as
a precaution.
double tap the insert key or use the insert menu, and then choose media file.
locate your mp3, wav, whatever contains the backing track, and press
enter on it. You will notice that a track has been created with the
file name as an item inside that track. When importing multiple items
at once, reaper will prompt you for what you wish to do. Options are
self explanatory.
Once the file or files have been imported, it is time to create new
tracks and record, just as described previously.

Afternoon All,
Sorry for the lateness in coming back to you guys. OK, Clive,
I've had a listen again to your demo track and like John, I don't
think there'd be too much of an issue doing it. As for
electronic drums, I wish I could be very clever and say I could
do one but, smiles, the truth of the matter is that they are all
drum patterns that you can freely and easily obtain from youtube.
I'm not sure if they are actually electronic but, I agree, they
are very sonically pleasing to the ear and don't sound like
Kraftwork on steroids! Nothing beats a real kit anyway. I have
somewhere in the region of 20 or 30 drum

As an alternative, I've popped in a track myself into the drop
box under guide tracks. I've covered this myself before and am
currently redoing it myself as it was originally done in Sonar
and I can't access those tracks anymore. Richard Ashcrofts, They
Don't Own Me is an amazing track and very very atmospheric. Not
too difficult and might pose as a good
Steve if he'd be able to supply an electronic drum track.
Best wishes for now all.

Hi All
I've now sorted out my Dropbox, it's incredible what you just
leave somewhere when you're not used to using it a lot!
I've updated the Musicians file and added myself as a
percussionist (purely in the hitting things sense, not
orchestral) and added myself to the long list of people who can
sing. I've also filled in some style
perhaps we need to simply do a series of tracks.

Hi John,
Good to hear from you. Perhaps a good way to start might be to
hear from people what they like. I think though, it'll be
difficult to cater for everyone so,

How about some sort of ballady type song as a starter perhaps?
Unfortunately John, I think you're in the minority here so looks

anyone else plays drums. I'm happy to lay down some bass and
