Hello Justin,
That was a really great presentation, thank you. I am very new to all of this,
and although some concepts just passed me by like scudding clouds, still some
of what you explained remained with me and filled in some huge holes in my
limited knowledge and understanding. I think what I learned most is how much
there is to the subject, and how little we scratched the surface despite your
clear presentation, in an hour an a half. Oh, and I apologise for all the
apologies I made during the presentation 😏.
I think I would like a few one-to-one sessions some time in the future. I am on
the Reapers for Peepers mailing list, but I have a daily presentation sent to
me once a day, as the volume of emails was a bit much for me. I would however
like access to the archives if that is at all possible?
Thanks again.
Paul Nugent

Thanks to Justin for a very interesting talk and we were sorry we had
to leave bang on 04:30 as we had to be some-where at 5 and the event
over-ran a bit. WE hope we didn't miss to much.
All the best.
Sarah and Andrew.

subject: [vibe] Reminder: tomorrow's Zoom
Hi All,
A reminder that this month's Zoom session, tomorrow, Wednesday 28 July
at 3 PM UK time, will be all about effects. I'm happy to welcome back
Justin Macleod for a third presentation. Justin writes:
Effects are probably the most fun part of using any DAW or editor.
Certainly, it's the part that pretty much all my students can't wait
to get their teeth into. Audio can be transformed and elevated in
weird and wonderful ways at the touch of a button. Adding effects in
the right way can be the difference between a production sounding
rough and raw and it taking on a professional gloss.
Join me for an interactive exploration of all the different categories
available to producers. Although I'll be using Reaper and touching on
the key presses and work flows that make effects tick there, the
majority of what I'll cover will apply just as well to any accessible
DAW or audio editor, regardless of operating system.
We'll cover:
the effects you don't want anyone to notice.
Adding style with effects, from delays to distortion, from comb filter
colouration to crushing, from reverbs to resonance and reverse echoes.
From trash to treasure: using effects creatively to make something
out of nothing.
the emphasis of the presentation will be guided by whatever you're
interested in. We may touch on drum tuning with frequency shifters,
larger than like vocal processing for jingles, creating alien vocal
effects, both recognisable and unique. We may cover the pumping and
breathing of electronic dance music, the wa wa sound of funk bass,
keyed gating or vocal chops for trap music. We only have so much time
before Peter throws us out so bring your questions and preferences or,
better yet, post them up on the list ahead of time and I'll prepare demos.
See you there,
