Hi Nick & Chris,

No problem guys, more than happy to.  I've listened to a lot of guys on youtube
demoing it and it really does sound awesome.  There's two guys in particular I
like listening to, one guy is from Germany and he plays a lot of high gain drop
tuned stuff and he made this amp sing!  Another British guy who does a lot of
work with Andertons and with Victory Amps has also demo'ed it and, in fact, did
a much more in-depth review featuring all the amp types.  It can create a
beautiful smooth jazz or blues type tone as well.  It's also got I think,
virtually all the Boss pedal effects on it as well!

I'll give ya all a shout after I've played with it for a few days smiles.

Steve

Hay Steve, yes I would certainly be interested to hear your opinion on the new
amp please?

Subject: [vibe] Amplifiers In General

Hi All,

Andy's question regarding control knobs was a very interesting one and made me
think about raising, for me, quite an important question.  I have played guitar
now for around 35 years or so and have had in that time a multitude of amps.
I'm now in a position where I'm needing a new amp and what a job it's been.
Obviously, or certainly to a very large extent, it very much depends on the
type of music you play and, what genre it is but, have any of you seen the
complexities of some of these new amps.  I've currently got a valve amp but, I
wanted to get something much more versatile.as I tend to play quite a mixture
of styles, anything from slow melodic blues right up to pretty high gain metal.
The trouble is, although there are lots of amps that will cater for the wider
variety of styles, they tend to be modelling amps and after my disastrous Line
6 venture into modelling amps, I've always steered away.  Nowadays, modelling
amps are even more complicated and necessitate navigating through screen upon
screen on an LCD display.  Well, displays are a definite no no for me.  I saw
one amp which really took my fancy but all the options were screen driven.
That was the new version 2 of the Fender Mustang 5 150 head and 4x12 cab or,
the Mustang 4 which was a combo with a 2 x 12 enclosure.  I used to always
believe that the principal of modelling was rubbish and nothing would beat a
true valve amp.  I do still think that to some extent but, the new modelling
amps from Fender and Boss/Roland are exceptional.  The issue I found was always
the actual responsiveness of the amp when you play.  The harder you play on the
strings if playing through a valve amp will always make the accentuation of
your playing much more pronounced.  After watching several hundred, well it
felt like it!, videos on youtube of the new Boss Katana Artist amp, I think I'm
starting to think otherwise.  This one is certainly one of the more expensive
modelling amps but, to be honest, it's not quite your normal modelling amp.
Unlike the Mustangs, this will only recreate five standard types to provide you
with five different channels.  The other great thing about the Artist is that
it doesn't have a display on it.  They're all hardware controls on it.  The
real deal clencher was the fact that the shop I bought it from had a B stock
model with a small ding on the front so had it discounted by about £200.  No
brainer really!  Anyway, I've bought it now and it should be with me by
Wednesday so, if anyone is interested, I'll report back!

Steve
