Hi William,
If you're not using material that would be able to take advantage of Dolby,
like movies or TV shows, I wouldn't expect a difference. And I certainly
wouldn't expect a difference through the mono speaker, since it can't deal with
the OB anyway. But I would hope that with the right program and with the stereo
speakers, you get something of a benefit. In any case, if I were going to buy
one of these new tablets, I would pay the extra to get the better sound, just
because I want the flexibility of not having to use ear phones all the time to
get decent sound, and I want the flexibility to put the tablet anywhere I want
not have to put it somewhere special justto get decent audio out of that tinny
back facing speaker. But different strokes for different folks as they say.

Hi Mary and all. Correct. Dolby is not mentioned in the 7" specs. But,
to be honest I cannot tell the difference in playback with one of my
Fire tablets that has dolby in the specs and the other that does not.
The rub here is speaker output. Yes, the speaker on the 7" Fire is a
bit tinny. It is on the back. But, I noticed that if you lean the
device against a solid object (like a wall), the sound improves alot
from reflection.
Also, I rarely listen with the mono speaker. Rather, I use earbuds or
headphones for privacy and external noise reasons.
my ears, the stereo playback in both of my 7" and 6" Fires are the
same. And quite clear and impressive.
But, as always, different strokes for different folks!
Stay well ... William

Hi William,
I don't think that the tablets have precisely the same electronics, that is
I know the HD eight has dolby atmos. That was specifically mentioned as a
feature there. The seven does not have that. Also, as for speaker placement,
at least with the current versions of both tablets, the seven is the speaker
faces the back. The eight speakers do not face the back, giving you a better
sound also getting you stereo. And with the addition of doblby that could
even be further enhance. Yes, you could certainly play your media through a
speaker. Saying use Bluetooth. But if you want the only one experience and
not have to fool with an extra speaker, then the eight looks like a better
deal to me. Especially if you don't have a good speaker and have to buy
one.
