Welcome to the list, Larry.
To find and download the software update to your PC:
1. Logon to your Amazon.com account.
2. Activate the "Manage Your Kindle" link.
3. activate the "Kindle Support" link.
4. Locate the button labeled "Search Help." Next to it is an edit box
labeled "Topic or keyword." Enter "update" into that box, and activate
the button.
5. Activate the "Kindle Keyboard Software" update" link. You are
looking for Version 3.3.

seem to get it done. I downloaded the software from Amazon and put it
in the root of the kindle but, following instructions my wife sent me
from this list, I could not find the update option and the software
disappeared from the unit when I re-connected the usb cable and looked
for it.
