Yep, William, this is exactly what I googled up for David Faucheux and
we linked to from his TeleRead.org review. I see the URLs match. The big
question is why Amazon support people didn't point him in that direction.
It's wonderful to share information via forums and email lists, but this is
what blind customers should have to start with. Meanwhile, fingers crossed
that some good user-created documentation will show up on YouTube.

Guide to VoiceView Gestures on Kindle (8th Generation)
With VoiceView on Kindle (8th Generation), blind and visually impaired
customers can use gestures to navigate their device and listen to
Kindle books and other Kindle content.
VoiceView will read your Kindle (8th Generation) screen contents,
including books and other Kindle content, via a Bluetooth audio
device, such as a speaker or headphones.
Note: VoiceView on Kindle (8th Generation) does not support music or
audiobook files.

Unlock the screen
When the screen is locked swipe right from the left edge of the screen
with two fingers to unlock your device.
Explore menus and items
Drag a finger over each item on the screen.
Go to the next item
Swipe right using a finger.
Go to the previous item
Swipe left using a finger.
Open an item
Select the item, and then double tap anywhere on the screen. If the
item doesn't open, try slowing down or speeding up your tapping speed.
Type on the keyboard
Move a finger slowly over the keys to hear them being read to you.
When you hear the letter you want to select, lift your finger from the
keyboard to add that letter.
Go to the next page
Swipe left with two fingers.
Go to the previous page
Swipe right with two fingers.
Scroll up or down
Swipe up or down with two fingers.
Note: This feature only works when you can scroll on the screen.
Hear additional information about an item
Double tap on the item and hold for one second. After you hear a tone,
drag your finger over the pop-up menu to navigate.
Start reading
From your book, swipe down from the top of the page with two fingers
when the reading toolbar is closed. When you open a book, VoiceView
begins reading the book and automatically turns the pages.
Show reading toolbar
While reading, tap the screen, and then double-tap the screen to show
the reading toolbar.
Pair a new Bluetooth audio device
Press and hold the power button for 7 seconds, and then press 2
fingers spaced apart on the screen for 1 second.
Wait up to 2 minutes to hear audio VoiceView instructions to “Hold two
fingers on screen to use this audio device with VoiceView screen
reader on Kindle.”
Re-enable VoiceView if turned off or in Airplane mode
Press and hold the power button for 7 seconds, and then press 2
fingers spaced apart on the screen for 1 second.
Download the Audio File for Your Device
If you’ve recently factory reset your Kindle (8th Generation), you
will need to re-download the audio file for your device.
To download and install the audio file:
1. Download Audio file for Kindle (8th Generation).
2. Turn on your Kindle and plug it into your computer using the USB cable.
3. Drag and drop the file from your computer into the Kindle drive.
4. Monitor the transfer to ensure the file transfers successfully.
5. Eject the Kindle to safely disconnect your Kindle from your
computer, and then disconnect the USB cable from your Kindle and your
computer.
6. Hold the power button on your Kindle for 20 seconds.
7. Wait one minute while your Kindle restarts and installs the voice file.
After successfully downloading the audio file for your device, Kindle
books compatible with VoiceView will be available when you a pair a
compatible Bluetooth audio device to your Kindle.
