Hi Rick,
My initial email message tells you how to determine the top of the
tablet which is where all the buttons are located. Also a couple of
messages back I gave you some numbered instructions to turn the speech
back on starting with resetting the tablet.

Thanks for the encouragement, I will have a sightie come by later this week
and hopefully tell me which end is up!
The lower tone sound when power button is pressed I know isn't correct.
Thanks for all the info and I am sure I will ask more when I know
more.
I'm a older dog trying to learn some new tricks!
Later,
Rick, time to see if my wife is still throwing snowballs to the dogs!

hi. i read this in the message from rick.
the volume is increased by pressing down the right side of the volume button
then a tone is heard.
are you holding the fire in vertical or landscape position?
from what you have written it sounds like you are holding the fire
horizontally.
if the fire is locked in (vertical) portrait then the two finger press won't
work. the press will be backwards/sidewards.
you have to hold the fire in vertical position with the volume control on
the top left side, and, with the power button on the right top.
if you have been holding the fire correctly all along, then, you may very
well be in a position that hitting the power button multiple times you might
not know what screen you are on since there is a locked screen as well as
the opening screen which is the one you do the press to voice the fire.
i guess, what i am saying is that you might need sighted help to figure out
where you are screen wise.
hang in there. you'll end up a pro!
stay well ... william

Okay Rick,
No, it makes the sound every time you press a volume button. Also no,
it's not just charging when you connect it to a computer you can then
copy and paste back and forth between the tablet and the computer
depending on the settings.
Try these steps.
1. Reset the tablet by holding down both the volume down and power
button for ten seconds.
2. Turn the tablet on and leave it alone for about 45 seconds so it
can turn on completely.
3. hold down the power button for a few seconds until it makes a sound.
4. Hold down the power button again for a couple of seconds so it
makes the sound again.
5. At this point put two fingertips on the screen about half an inch
apart until it says that VoiceView has been turned on, it shouldn't
take more than 10 seconds.
