I just discovered a great skill on my Echo device that I thought others might
not know about. It is called Recipe Speak. You can add your own recipes on the
Recipe Speak site and then access them through the Echo Device using Alexa. I
have already started adding my recipes, I am really excited to have somewhere
to back up my recipes besides my external hard drives. It is super easy to use
with Jaws, so if you want a place to back up your recipes and you have an Echo
device, I highly recommend the Recipe Speak skill. This is the information that
I received in my email when I signed up for Recipe Speak.
Quick Start
1. Save your personal recipes.
Log in to your RecipeSpeak account and save your recipes.
2. Pick the recipe you would like to use.
To select a recipe for narration, you could say "Alexa, ask RecipeSpeak to find
a recipe with chicken and garlic". Any matching results are presented one after
the other.
TIP: Sometimes, Alexa can mishear what you are saying. For this reason,
RecipeSpeak repeats your search terms by saying "You searched for?". If your
search terms are not being understood correctly by Alexa despite multiple
attempts, don't worry. You can still access the recipe you want as follows: Go
to recipespeak.com and login to your RecipeSpeak account. Using the search box
in the web interface, search for the recipe. Once you have found the recipe,
click on its "Make active" button. Now you can ask Alexa for this recipe by
saying
"Alexa, ask RecipeSpeak to get my active recipe".
3. Start cooking with RecipeSpeak.
Once you have selected a recipe, to navigate through the ingredients and
instructions, use the words "next" , "previous" , "repeat" , "Go to start" ,
"Go to first ingredient" and "Go to first step" . The skill will ask questions
and provide instructions to navigate you through the recipe.
TIP: Say "pause" to put the skill on hold, while you are gathering ingredients
or while you are waiting for a cooking step to be done. Say "Alexa, open
RecipeSpeak" to pick up where you left off.
TIP: Any time while cooking, you may query the quantity of any ingredient.
"How much pepper?"
"How many onions?"
TIP: Query cooking times and oven temperature.
"What is the cooking time for salmon?"
"What is the setting for oven temperature?"
