hi. agreed. partly. i have also a kindle keyboard bought in 2010 and
use it every day. also a new kindle 8th generation with bluetooth
audio and touch.
the kindle keyboard is special because it not only can read kindle
books, it can also read kindle unprotected, .mobi and .txt all
converted with codex.
not only that, the kindle keyboard can play .mp3 files.
it is a great discontinued product, but, someone could make a killing
by coming out with the same idea, excepting placing the keyboard in
landscape instead of portrait so the keys are a bit bigger.
still, it's easy to navigate and although the voice isn't the newest
ones, quite understandable. this kindle is my default reader for my
digital newspaper delivered each morning!
however, saying all of this, i purchased the kindle fire as my first
touch device and it was a breeze to learn although i still prefer my
bluetooth keyboard than the virtual.
of course, the fire is a tablet with more capability than just reading
books as is the case with the kindle.
but, like i said i use the kindle keyboard every day. note also, that
both of my kindle ereaders allow for much easier transfer from pc to
kindle of books than the fire. my pc is a laptop running xp. can't get
any more backward compatible than that!

messing with a touch screen, they just don't make sense to me. In their
infinite wisdom, some publishers will not enable text to speech. I convert
these books to text and then put back on my kindle keyboard or victor stream
to read. True they can be read on my computer, but It really isn't portable
and I don't like being tied to that.
