Hi Larry. Here are my results.
1. I downloaded a sample of the book.
2. I fired up both my kindle for pc and codex.
3. I did a conversion to text .mobie and unprotected kindle.
4. All book conversions converted fine.
5. I then loaded into my kindle keyboard and tapped on all of the
files and they spoke back in tts with no problem.
6. So, the book converts fine and tts works as advertised. I've have
converted books much larger than this with no problem. So, I don't
think size is the problem. It might very well be that you have the
newer version of kindle for pc which is problematic in converting
books because Amazon has started using a new security for Kindle
books. But, the older version (which I have installed) works fine.
So, I would simply go back to the codex site and download the older
version which is linked on his site and install. If you find the newer
install easier to read with and navigate using your pc to read, just
rename the new install for conversion purposes. or, install in a
different folder on your computer. Just use the newer install of the
older version when doing a conversion.
Also, when opening the new install don't forget to uncheck "automatic
updates to new kindle for pc versions" because if you don't you will
be updated to the new version which would not be what you want!
I am also using codex on a laptop running Windows XP with 512 mb of
ram. So, I'm not using some type of super machine, but, my conversions
have always worked well.
