Sorry but for me, with the first Kindle fire I got that wasn't done by Laz so
that voice view was already running, it was helpful to me to plug it in. I
wasn't plugging it in to charge it; I was plugging it in because it came on
when plugged in and I was having trouble trying to get voice view to come on
without it plugged in. This way I knew it was on and when I had to try again I
just unplugged and plugged it again. My problem with getting voice view to turn
on actually was that I had trouble holding my fingers there long enough so had
some false starts. So for me plugging it in was helpful but the point about it
not needing to be charged first is absolutely correct.

one does not have to plug in the fire when you get it to charge.
in fact, plugging in the fire will just complicate initial voicing.
the fire comes with at least a 60% charge.
if you are blind, the most important thing is to get the fire to
voice. not charge.
problem? if you plug in the fire, the fire will start up, and, when
you decide to do something with it, it is probably locked.
however, when you now push the power button, you probably will not
know if it is ready to power off or is now unlocked.
just a heads-up.
don't plug in the fire when you get it to charge before going through
the steps to voice.

Give it about 30 seconds to fully load everything. Now hold down the
power button for about one second and you should hear a chime. Put two
finger tips about a half inch apart in the center of the screen and
the tablet should start speaking in a few seconds, don't take your
finger tips off the screen yet. Wait until it says VoiceView has been
turned on and then take your finger tips off the screen. All in all it
should take about seven seconds.
