Hi again,

Recovery mode is something like having to go in to the Bios on a Windows system. There just isn't any voice available at that point. So, especially for a totally blind person with no immediate sighted help at 1 AM, it's really a last resort kind of thing.

I googled unbricking amazon fire 7 tablet and learned from there. I figured the tablet was already mostly useless so how much more harm could I do. LOL!

I may play around with trying to put stock android on my current tablet when I get the new one and it's up and running okay. But it sounds like a lot of sighted help might be needed for that.

Hi Ann. WOW. That is super!

Where did you learn about recovery mode? That is a great nugget of
wisdom to keep in the toolbox.

I found that so interesting that I checked out a few youtube videos
and then came upon this blog post on installing stock android on a
fire tablet. I might just try this on a cheap buy!

Do you know if you lost voice because the volume control was on down,
or, was that something caused by going into recovery mode?

Nevertheless, glad it all worked out! Friday super blessings!

When you get the new Fire, tell us all about it. The $38. price was a
very good offer.

Stay well ... William

Hi,

I tried removing the SD card, but no luck.

Yes, I have the newest Fire 7 tablet on pre-order. Can't wait to get it
on June 7, I think.

My old tablet is working now! I had to get the tablet in to a special
recovery mode by holding down the Power and the Volume Down buttons
while it was booting, which was very tricky since Voice View isn't up
and running and I am totally blind. But once I was able to get the
tablet in to that recovery mode, I was able to connect it to my computer
and sideload a copy of the OS, and it works great now!

Thanks for all your advice. And I will say Amazon customer service was
terrific, too.
