Jog wheel
If you swipe down with one finger you can move forward by one character, word,
or whatever at a time.Swiping up with one finger moves backward by the same
increments. Swiping with one finger up then down while keeping your finger on
the screen or down and up will change the increment used with the one finger
swipe up or swipe down.
Swiping down with one finger over and over again and again can take some time.
Supposedly the jog wheel is meant to make this simpler and quicker. The idea
is that you set the increment by swiping up and down or down and up with one
finger. Once you have the increment set to letter, word or whatever, then,
with one finger, you double tap and hold and immediately start drawing a circle
on the screen either clockwise or counter clockwise. Drawing the circle should
move you forward or backward by the increment you previously set. As long as
you keep moving your finger around the circle, you will continue to move. If
you are moving forward by drawing the circle clockwise, you can reverse the
direction by stopping, but not lifting your finger, and immediately drawing the
circle in the opposite direction. The speed at which you draw the circle
determines the speed at which you move either forward or backwards.
I suppose this is a nifty idea, but for some of us it just doesn't work very
well. Unfortunately I can't think of a better way of doing what the Jog Wheel
is supposed to do so, while it does not work well for me, more power to those
who find it useful.

What does it do exactly that is different from the other gesture that
increases or decreases granularity? I’m having trouble doing it, but can do
the swipe up and down or down and up in one motion OK. Just wondering what
the jog wheel does that’s different.
