[vi-kindle] The disappearing update for my HD eight

Hi all,
This morning, when I did a "check for update", I was told that there was one 
available. I thought this would be great because this must be the update that I 
need to get before I can have the new braille support. So I tapped on install. 
And nothing installed. It still says I have the version that was installed on 
August 31. But now, when I do a check for update it says there are none 
available. Has this happened to anybody else? What the heck can I do?
