You *have* made great strides since you got the tablet! I too wish it
would respond to the Alexa command just like the Echo devices. I use
the OK Google command on a Nexus 5 and it works perfectly on there as
well. BTW, if you would like the OK Google experience on a Nexus 5 for

Apparently OK Google does not work on the Fire. I recently had a chance to
play around with a Nexus 6P running the latest OS and OK Google worked
extremely well and was very helpful so I was just hoping. LOL! But here I am
comparing a $600 device with the $63 Fire so that is not really fair.
I was also hoping that the Google keyboard would work so I would have the
number row above the top without having to switch to symbols but I cannot
get to any setting to change the default keyboard. I did however get it to
include the voice input key above the letter p so you can dictate into a
text field when editing.
Considering the short time I have had the Fire, I find I am getting
acquainted pretty well and so far I do like it, especially for the price.
The Joey voice is great and I do like having Alexa on the device as well as
receiving it with Voiceview turned on and the Play store installed thanks to
you.

Seeing as not every Android phone has the capability of using the OK
Google command I really doubt that it would work on the Fire tablet
especially since it doesn't seem to have that capability and one has
to double tap and hold the home button to get Alexa to respond. I
currently have two different Android phones and that command works on
one but not the other, so I think the device itself has to have that
capability or the possibility of it built in else it won't work.
Alexa on the Fire tablet is similar to OK Google except one has to
double tap and hold the home button to have it respond whereas on some
Android devices one doesn't have to double tap or hold down a button
just say OK Google for it to respond.
I think Marie is looking for a hands free always listening for the key
phrase feature found on some Android devices.

OK Google is the Android version of SIRI on iOS. With the right
Android phone one can just say Ok Google and it will chime at which
point you can give it a command. On some Android phones one has to
instead double tap the voice Search or voice command button on the
screen normally found at the top just beneath the notification bar. I
doubt the OK Google command will work on a Fire tablet.
