I hope I can explain this. If not maybe someone will jump in and explain it
better.
Ok here goes. You have one amazon account with an your sign in password.
You can get to this account either on your kindle or your PC via the wifi
and with an internet browser like firefox. Google. Internet explorer just
go to amazon.com sign in and sign in. It will open up with your name and a
list of your orders. Books subscriptions manage account. Manage devices. Ok
you can do everything on this main account and here is where you can see
everything. You can bookmark this webpage on your browser and also you can
download the kindle program for PC. This program kindle is where you
download your books that you purchase even if it's a free purchase. You
have to download the newspaper each day.
On your kindle you have the same two programs to read kindle books
newspapers and shop.
It's kinda weird but you have download a book twice once your amazon cloud
and once to each device you want it on. You can delete a book off a device
and leave it on the cloud for downloading again or to download to another
device. You can obtain kindle use the online apps to go to your amazon
account.
Ok each device you own must be registered with amazon. So you put the same
books, newspaper and audible books, music videos on any registered device.
If you want you can deregister a device but that is mostly if it broken
pernamentally or you sell it or give it away.

Dont forget your smartphone can be a device. It is like a tablet only you
download android amazon apps on playstore and iOS amazon apps onitunes.
There are ways to put google play store apps on kindle but I've done little
of that.
