Hi Nan, I wasn't aware that there was this feeling inparts of the blindness community about the Kindle. But I'm not surprised about the Federation, they don't like much of anything unless they had a hand in it's development or got money for participating in it, but that's just my opinion. I'll be attending some meetings of Library Users of America at the ACB convention, and I'll see what people's opinion of the Kindle is. I think it seems to be growing on people a bit more now. Hope so. -----Original Message----- From: vi-kindle-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:vi-kindle-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Nan Hawthorne <hawthorne%nanhawthorne.com> Sent: Sunday, June 10, 2012 6:34 PM To: vi-kindle@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [vi-kindle] Re: Kindle users' group at ACB convention? Jane, I'm not so surprised. A couple years ago when I was involved in www.accessibleworld.org doing a historical novel discussion group I talked about the Kindle and basically got trashed. One woman in particular got really angry with me for, basically, selling out to a company that only pretended to access, namely Amazon. The people who were the maddest at me were NFB people partly because i got on their collective case for taking such an impractical approach to the Kindle... I feel strongly that we are better off acting like a market, consumers, than throwing tantrums in the press. Honey and vinegar and making ourselves mainstream and not in a ghetto.
