Neat, thanks! I really want to lock my Kindle in Portrait mode.

Thanks, Carol! Your directions make perfect sense. I need idiot proof. Thanks
for indicating the speed of Alexa's double tap!

Hi,
As for Alexa, it does not matter whether you use portrait or landscape.
The trick is to tap somewhere toward the middle of the screen with two fingers
with about a finger's width between them. I do this at a set speed something
like saying twinkle, twinklke. Tap on both syllables of thee first twinkleeand
keepp your fingers on the screen until you have said the second twinkle. Of
course, the twinkles are only to givee you an idea of how quickly to tap. The
other more important thing is to make sure to put both fingers down at one time
and do not move them around on the screen. This pattern works for me because I
often can not hear the little chime that means Alexa is listening.
To set the orientation, swipe down from the top of your tablet with three
fingers. Swipe until you hear settings. Double-tap on settings.
From within settings, swipe right until you find display, around the sixth
item. Double-tap on display.
Go to the bottom of your screen and swipe left. On my tablet, one item left of
the back button there are two choices. One says keep in portrait mode (or
similar words) and this is the one you double-tap. I don't think there is an ok
button or anything like that you need to click afterward. Close your settings
and look at the top of your home screen. If you swipe down with three fingers
from the very top, where you would find settings, you will now see a
notification that orientation is locked. I hope this helps. Sometimes, I get
too descriptive and can make things seem more complicated. If you need any
help figuring out what I have posted, please feel free to write and I will
rearrange my instructions.

Carol, how did you get Alexa to use the tablet. I still haven't figured the
Fire hierarchy. It doesn't make sense to me. I'm looking for an orientation
lock so that items don't shape shift.
I did get Alexa to work a couple of times last night. I called Amazon, got
nothing, and the person didn't call me back. Not good. I told the young women
that, before Amazon could pretend that these support tech could help blind
folks use their systems, they needed to do it blindfolded for a while. I was
that annoyed!
But, it's not the fault of those folks who aren't paid much and expected to
do a lot.

Hi Rhonda,
Has Alexa worked on your tablet at all? I had to re-download the
Alexa app for some reason, because my Fire no longer had it, and once
I did that and made sure she was selected to use my Tablet, I was able
to close the4 app and everything is working fine again. I can even get
my Amazon music, which had stopped working.
After she was reinstalled, the two-finger double-tap and hold for a
couple of seconds is now working like magic.

William, I am determined to get Alexa to work. I tried single tapping, just
in case that worked -- obviously not.
My sons gave me Echo Dot and smart switches&lightbulbs for Christmas. I made
my son Alex take the smart plugs and bulbs, because I have no use for
voice-controlling lights. Since I often bought the boys toys that I would
like to play with, I most likely deserved them buying something they wanted
for themselves! I haven't determined yet if the Echo Dot is worth the
hassle, since I'm never going to purchase Kindle or Audio books as long as
there is BARD and Bookshare, which you can't put on the Echo. It doesn't
seem worthwhile for me to learn how to get or read Kindle books.

Hi Rhonda. I guess the list is working!
1. To get Alexa to work it is a DOUBLE tap and HOLD on the home
screen! Not a single tap.
2. What kind of video are you talking about? From Amazon? Other?
However, if you look in quick settings/settings/storage you might
find it to delete. If you do find the video, tap on options for the
delete selection.
3. As for the Echo, don't own one. Sorry, can't help in that
department. Other folks on this list can help I bet. Talk it up!
Stay well ... William

William,
This is silly, but to date, I cannot get Alexa to work on my Fire #8.
However, I just received the keyboard adaptor from Amazon, so
perhaps I will be able to more closely check settings, or the Alexa
icon to see if I have missed something obvious, which I most likely
have. The two finger tap/hold is not working for me, either as single or
double tap gesture.
Apologies that everyone whines to you when something doesn't work
with the Amazon devices! I hope you are comfortable with guru status!
I have to see if I can delete a video which I accidentally
downloaded rather than simply play. These events should no longer occur
when using a keyboard.
Additionally, I'm having trouble keeping an Echo Dot connected, so
Amazon hasn't heard the last from me!
Thanks!
