1 - note that there are three master screens on the kindle fire. first
is the primary screen that you find when turning on the fire. swiping
you will go through user, time, date, ads, unlock, camera. you can
unlock this screen by either tapping the unlock button or doing a two
finger swipe upward on the screen. second screen is this home screen
which you go to after unlocking the previous screen. this screen has
all of your apps. third, there is the power off screen which you will
go to after holding the power button for a second and then releasing.

2 - make sure your volume is turned up. i would crank it a couple
clicks to make sure.
3 - the following procedure (i have found) can only be done from the
power off screen. so, some first important stuff. question one. is
your kindle fire turned on? well, to find out, hold the power button
down for one second and release. if you get a sound from the kindle
fire, you have just switched to the power off page. if not, i imagine
your kindle fire is not on. so, if that is the case, hold down the
power button for seven seconds and release. it takes the primary
screen as long as 45 seconds to open on my kindle fire since i have
alot of apps and also a anti-virus program that does a scan on boot of
the device.
this page has to fully load, so give it time. 45 seconds is probably
about right.
4 - ok, here is the good poop. if you are on the primary screen, hold
down the powere button for a second, you will get a sound and you are
now on the power off page. here you do your turn-on (and, turn-off for
that matter) magic.
place two fingers spread apart on the screen and hold on the screen
until you get a voice prompt that voice view is enabled. don't release
too soon. just hold on and listen. when all-in-the-clear release and
you are now in business.
note that if you are even on the home screen, the power button thing
will also get you to the power off page.
note also, that, if your kindle fire is plugged into the wall, it will
automatically turn on to the primary page. it might go to sleep, but,
it will already be on. you can kick it out of bed, by doing that
one-second power button trick!
i know you are (just like me) going through this procedure in the dark
on this. but, hope this helps.

That was supposed to have said sighted assistance. Anyhow, I got to the page
where did I ask you to select a language. Soon as I double tap with one
finger on continue that's when I lost my speech.
And then, I plug the device and thinking the battery was dead. When I move
my finger over the screen actually try to turn off the sound, that's what I
hear the clicking sound much like you would hear on the Apple device.
Thank you and advance for any help I sure could use it. They make the cords
on these things way too small. So, I had to order a 5 foot cord.
Luckily, the 5 foot cord was under $10. I also purchased a regularly priced
$40 shell for less than $13.
They also have a three-year insurance/protection plan you can purchase for
1999.
