I've just got the update for my Fire 7".
I looked for the update late last evening and it wasn't there. Just tried again
this morning with a 39% battery level and it downloaded without any problem.
But just to be on the safe side, I quickly put it on charge.
10 minutes or so later speech came on.
Looking through the new and modified gestures it looks as if manipulating the
Fire will be a lot easier.
For example, you can now reach Alexa from anywhere by a two finger double tap
and hold on the last tap.

Hi mary. I am an HD8 owner. I have the six generation tablet. I got the update
on 11 November, but I do know that older generations were receiving it as late
as yesterday.

I think also that you will be going through two OS updates. If I am
correct, you have to have the past OS updated before the new one can
be installed. At the date of your last OS update makes me think that.
However, if you currently have OS 5.4 that would not be the case. The
newest OS update skipped 5.5 and jumped to 5.6.
By the way, keep your Fire on overnight, and, the battery should
drain to at least 50%.
