I have managed to successfuly avoid kindle fire updates by never leaving the
wifi on on the tablet while the tablet is not being actively used. For
instance, I enable wifi when I want to download a book or use the internet for
something, then when I am finished, I immediately turn the wifi off. This works
most of the time. I avoided updating my tablet for several months using this
method. I only installed an update when I was sure that it wasn't going to
change things I did not want changed.

Dear William
Just out of interest - how old is the Fire on which your Google Play Store is
working?
The article I linked to seems to suggest that access to the Google Play
Store was nobbled by a comparatively recent Fire update. Mine is pretty old
but I notice that it is still updating and my access to the Store seemed
crippled after an update.
It occurs to me that if you have an older Fire tablet which is no longer
receiving updates you may be protected from the update which cripples the
Google Play Store. So avoiding update may be the way to go though, I am not
sure that is an option on the fire anyway.

Hi David. My install of GPS works. Went into my wish list and installed an
app no problem. Perhaps for you it is app specific?
Stay well. William

Sadly it appears that VoiceDream Reader will no longer work on the
Fire Platform even if you have Google Play installed.
I now get a message that the app is not certified and that I instead
need to download from a trusted source.
This seems to what I have researched part of the ongoing war between
Amazon and Google.

In the linked article a solution is suggested of using the Yalt app
store rather than the Google Play Store on the Fire OS.
Has anybody has any experience of using Yalt and is the process accessible?
