I agree with you William. I never just keep my fire plugged in either. In the
latest OS update there appears to be a power saving feature where the fire will
disconnect from your wifi when you're not using it for prolonged periods of
time. I haven't investigated this too much but whether that means when you're
not using the fire at all or simply if the content you are accessing does not
need to be accessed over the internet i.e. a kindle or audible book you have
downloaded.

hi all. i would never just leave the unit plugged in all the time. bad on the
battery.
i just keep the wireless on all the time, airplane mode on and just turn off
the fire when i am done. that has been my mode (mostly) for a year and a half.
i believe the rule is to charge when you are down to 25 to 45%, or something
like that.
of course you can turn on airplane mode if you don't want wireless on if you
want. and, for extended periods that i may be reading a book with the fire, i
will do that.
there is an option for your wireless network to "forget" or dismiss.
double tap and hold on the wireless network in question and "forget".
the next time you turn on the fire, it will show up and you can enter the
password again.

Oh, OK ...one more little thing ..can I keep the Fire plugged in to
the wall on a permanent basis? I do this with both my player and with
my Stream, so that I don't have to keep charging them, and so that, if
I have to travel with either, I KNOW they have a full charge. Right
now, I don't have the Fire plugged in, and it has retained a 100%
charge from yesterday. That, BTW, is a feature I very much like about
the Fire! I can immediately tell how much charge I've got!
