Hi all. The "easier way" will get rid of apps on the home screen that
are not default Fire apps only.
But, as for others, I have found that they often return to the home
screen later after being removed.
One thing I have noticed, is that, with the new OS update, doing a
double tap and hold on the home button to get Alexa to start ain't
possible when the "recent" screen is open. That requires the standard
home screen. Weird!

removed, my only other option seems to be moving things into a folder I
named Extras. This has cut my icons down considerably, but I did not
have the option to remove anything from the home screen.
