I'm sorry but I can't figure out why this is happening for you guys. I don't
have to click on anything first and I've tried it with several books now; I
just use my voice. You shouldn't have to be doing this but I'm afraid I haven't
a clue as to what the problem is.

This happens on a regular echo device also. The only way I can get her to
read a kindle book is first to click on that book in the Alexa app, or the
web site, which is where I do it. Then she reads it. I haven't set up my
kindle fire yet, so don't know if this will work with the fire also.

I bought a Kindle book in a mystery series I wanted. It was only 99
cents. I used my PC to make the purchase, and I confirmed that it
would go to my Fire. I had my Fire turned on when I completed the
transaction, and I heard the notification "ding." The title is listed
in my new items. Nevertheless, Alexa says she doesn't find it in my
Kindle library. I have read the Alexa Help pages multiple times in
search of a solution. I'm just puzzled.
