Thanks, William.
Would the 8 and 10 not be newer than the 7?
I can live without Miss A on the Fire, assuming it will come to the Canadian
market in due course just as the Echo has. But I do like the idea of the
better battery specs on the 8.
Also, do all of the Fire tablets, the newer ones I'm talking about, have
accessibility built in? I assume they all have the TTS voices as well.
Thanks again for your input.
Jean

Hi Jean. I live in the USA. Here, I have both a 6 inch Fire 4th
generation (bought August, 2015) and 7 inch 5th generation (bought in
December the following year). The 7 inch you are speaking to is the
newest model with hands-free Alexa. Both of my Fire tablet models
received Alexa with automatic OS upgrades, although, when purchased,
Alexa wasn't onboard.
Stay well ... William

Hello all,
I haven't bought a Fire tablet yet, but am becoming more enamoured with it
as I research. I especially like the TTS voices I heard demoed on Youtube.
They sound so good.
Like most things, choice is always better in the United States. I live in
Canada, and just found out that the HD7and HD8 only became available here
last fall. However, Amazon is only selling the HD7, and one must search out
other sellers for the 8. Also the model with Alexa isn't offered here. I
will hold out for the HD8 because of its better battery life even compared
to the 10.
I am also wondering for those of you with Alexa enabled Fire tablets, was
that rolled out with a firmware upgrade, or did you have to purchase a unit
with it built in? The Echo was only officially launched here last December,
and I have two of them. I would most definitely want any Fire tablet to have
Alexa support. So, either I buy an 8 now and wait and have Alexa added
through a firmware update, or wait and buy a unit with it included whenever
that might be. Just wondering how it came together in the US.
