The Fire OS is not iOS nor is it strictly Android although it is
closer to Android. Getting the double taps and such down just takes a
bit of practice for those who never used Android or have used iOS
forever. I use all three, Android, iOS, and the Fire OS and my double
taps and double tap and hold are done in the same exact way on all
three platforms and they work consistently on all three. I double tap
on the item itself and hold on the second tap. It's done rather
quickly, tap tap&hold, so tap lift tap and hold. I always have to
repeat over and over especially to those who come from an iOS
background to make their taps and swipes as light as possible as
Android takes a lighter touch. Some are able to make the switch and
some aren't, just like some people can use a touch screen while others
just can't or won't. As I always say, there is a spectrum on which
everyone falls which goes all the way from can't or won't use it to
the other end which is takes to it like a duck to water. It's not a
bad reflection on anyone if they fall somewhere on the lower end of
the spectrum, it's just that some people can use a touch screen while
others can't but everyone falls somewhere in that spectrum. Practice
can certainly improve one's ability to use a touch screen on whatever
platform or OS. But if you find that doing it in some particular way
works for you then go with it. I just spoke with someone last night
who comes from an iOS background and she was using the pad on her
finger to do the taps. It helped her tremendously when I suggested she
just use the finger tip instead. It is difficult to figure out what
someone may be doing incorrectly not being able to see what they're
doing so it can take some time to finally be able to correct anything
they may be doing incorrectly. One thing anyone can do is go through
the interactive tutorial until they feel comfortable using the
tablet's touch screen.

experience, this focus losing problem is an android thing. Focus on a given
control is just not as stable in my experience. And voice view is still
build on android. So, my guess is that it suffers from that underlying
problem, whatever it is.
