Is the snag you’re talking about where you click the update button, hear the
click sound, but nothing seems to happen? I’ve done this about 4 times already
this morning, and can’t tell if things are being updated or not.

Hi David and William,
Thank you so much David for the article! Unfortunately I haven't yet gotten
the update on my 9th gen Fire 7, but I'm looking forward to it! It's great
that the update will support older devices as well! Kudos to Amazon for doing
that! William, I'm glad that the update worked on your old Fire tablet as
well.
All the best,
Siena.

Hi David. Thanks for the info. Note: The new OS update came to my
5-year-old 6 inch 4th Generation Fire as well. Some hints. At least
for me, when I went to Settings/Device Options/Update the Fire went
silent for quite a long time. Had my sighted daughter take a look and
she told me that the Fire was on an updating percentage screen. I say
this, so folks won't get frustrated and start doing stuff that might
impair the update. Don't worry, the Fire will automatically shut down
and then reboot! The Fire will talk to you in voice-view just as
before the update. You will also have to go back to Update in Settings
to finish the Updating after the reboot!
Stay well. William

Amazon upgrades to Fire OS 7 on Fire HD 8, HD 7, and Fire 7
Amazon has just issued an Operating system update for the 2018 Fire HD 8,
2017 Fire HD 7, and entry level Fire 7 that came out in 2019. It upgrades
to
Fire OS 7, which is based on Android 9. Amazon hardly ever supports their
older tablets, so this gives them a second life.
Should you get your tablet updated to Fire OS 7 you’ll now get support for
Picture-in-Picture videos, increased app permission controls, hopefully
boosted battery performance, plus a ton more on top. One of main benefits
is
that the new OS will have support for newer and modern apps, that need
different API calls. The previous version of Fire OS 6, was based on
Android
7.1 <x-msg://5/7.1>, which is pretty ancient by today’s standards for a
tablet.
Amazon is slowly pushing out the update. If you simply can’t wait, you can
mosey on over to the Fire Tablet Software Updates
page<https://amzn.to/2FEKRCF> <https://amzn.to/2FEKRCF%3E>; for your
specific device.
