Hi William. Thanks for that. I did note something very interesting yesterday.
The issue where the text to speech starts reading at my kindle reading speed
and then suddenly drops back into this reading speed I have set for the tablet
can be overcome by simply double tapping to bring up the kindles menu then,
instead of navigating to the button that starts text to speech, simply double
tap again and the reading starts and doesn't seem to drop back to the fires
text to speech. I will be very interested to see what comes of the questions
you have sent for me. Thanks for doing that.

note, that i am having issues also with my fire "6" running os 5.3.1
which i don't believe were a problem before. so, we'll see what gives.
i imagine there is another os update in the works. as you noted, it's
not a hardware issue. it's software.
