You know the same use to be said about physical disabilities...
know we have clickers that have been adapted to use in the mouth...
sensors that have beams that are broken by movement and make sound for those
who can't click...
verbal markers.. target sticks... foot clickers... etc..
Our possibilities are only limited by imagination and creativity.
It use to be said that a dog can't guide a person in a wheelchair... well GDB
busted that bubble too...

I have talked with blind trainers who use bells on the dog and on tools they
use to teach with... collars with handles to sense the head movements for
behaviors... foil and baking pans on the floor to be able to hear the dogs
movements.... buttons that make noise to teach touching... and I know there is
more that just isn't coming to my mind now...

One of the reasons I started my journal website is that so many contacted me
about adapting behavior and task teaching for their limitations that I thought
it would be helpful to have a place where those with disabilities might give
and get ideas for adapting positive reinforcement teaching to their disability.

It is called the AssistanceDogJournal.net because I am passionate about
assistance dog teaching... but many who are just teaching their pets are
contributing and getting ideas to help them adapt for their needs.

Is it possible... I am of the belief that if there is a will the is a way...
you get open minded, creative people together and you would be amazed at what
you can accomplish!

I always strongly advice assistance dog owner trainers or refreshers to get
guidance from an experienced assistance dog teacher for their safety and the
dogs.

If you are an owner trainer and have adaptations you use or have developed for
your use ... please let me know... I would love to share it with other like you
who are yearning for the joy of teaching their animal.

whew...got long winded today...sorry... as I said ...I get excited about the
possibilities.

Best Wishes & Wags,
Diane & Raven
