Hi all,

I joined the list recently, and thought it was time for me to introduce
myself and my best pal Smokey.

My name is Melinda, and I already recognize some of the names of people
from other lists. I am currently working with my third guide dog who was
trained at Leader Dogs for the Blind which is located in Rochester,
Michigan. His name is Smokey, and we were matched on July fifth of 2006.
He is a very sweet natured male black labrador.

As I said, Smokey is my third guide dog. My previous guide dog was a husky
named April. We were a team from September 30, 1992 until she had to be
put to sleep on March 18th of 2006. She was fifteen-and-a-quarter when she
left me, and we were a team for over thirteen years.

My first dog was a lab cross named Lacy. We were only a team for about
five and a half months or so because things didn't work out between us.
Lacy and I met on June fifth of 1991, and she went back to the school on
November 22, 1991.

Smokey and I live in WI with my husband Nick, a four-year-old beagle named
Missy, a cockatiel named Cinnamon, and a rat named Templeton.

I joined this list because I love to learn about dogs and how they think
and work. I know some about clicker training already, but I would like to
learn more and find out how other people with disabilities use it with
their service animals. Well, I guess that's all from me for right now. I
look forward to learning as much as I can, and making new friends, too.

Take care, and be safe out there!

Your friends always,

Melinda and Smokey My Mellow Fellow and April, now our angel dog.
