Hi All,

Well, I finally broke down and got a GL for Sunny to try and help with her
sniffing problem. She also tends to pull a lot when we're in new or
different situations, so I thought it might help with that too. I've been
kind of scared to try it for fear of doing something wrong or that she might
hate it. I've heard stories about how some dogs will try anything to get it
off, and I saw an instance where a dog wouldn't work with it on at all, so
that made me hesitate to try it. I didn't think Sunny would put up too much
of a fuss; she is pretty laid back about just about everything, but I just
didn't know. Tonight was our first training session with it, and she did
fantastic!! I was so pleased!! I used the clicker to introduce her to it,
and clicked and treated through every step of the way from fitting the
collar part to putting the nose loop over her nose and fitting it, to
putting it on and taking it off again, so she and I could both get used to
how it all worked. She was very comfortable and relaxed and happy the whole
time, never struggled at all or pawed at it. I even went so far as to put
the leash on the GL and heel her around the house and outside on the
driveway a bit, and she did just great! It was amazing to me how little it
took to make her understand what I wanted from her with the GL on. If her
attention did start to stray a bit, I just very gently tugged on the leash
until it was loose in my hand again, and she walked along very nicely no
matter which way I went. Not bad for our first session. I'm sure I'll be
wishing I had done this a long time ago and kicking myself for waiting so
long. I think we're gonna like this!
