I have tried with another cable: still can't be detected as portable device.
Well, I am sure I could copy the file onto a USB-drive, but the point is,
something has gone wrong because I should not have to do that all the time.
If I have a suitable USB cable around, then, I should be able to transfer the
file from PC to VU without an extra step.
Please advise.

in case that’s the issue. Does the cable fit snugly into the VU ? As
an alternative, you might put the files you were trying to transfer
onto a thumb drive and then copy them to the flash disk on the unit.
