I quite like computer braille, but haven't used it for a while, it was my go to
braille grade for a while though back in the day when I was using an Esys from
EuroBraille.
As for now, I'm a massive fan of UEB as it gives access to more characters and
allows you to bold/underline text directly from your braille display, though,
haven't tried that myself as of yet, but I can certainly see the logic behind
some of the contraction changes.

I don't have a problem with UEB at all. I kinda like it. I began my braille
reading journey with very basic grade 2 braille a few years after the change to
UEB was presented, so I decided, why learn an obsolete system, and I dumped
grade 2 for UEB. I do have to say, I would rather have the words such as and,
of, the, with, and for joined together like grade 2 does it because that saves
space on the braille display. I also like reading long passwords with numbers
and letters using UEB because it makes more sense to me. As opposed to Steve, I
really, really dislike computer braille. I actually don't like using dots 7 and
8 as they add to many dots spread out from 1 through 8 to feel under my
fingertips. Gotta admit, I want to take as much time and effort to master a
single code rather than having to learn 3+ different braille codes, which is
why I settled on UEB. I've only been using braille for reading fiction and such
for about 8 months, so maybe my need for speed will dictate the code I
ultimately go with in the future. I've run many, many Google searches for
resources on grade 3 braille, but it uses many outdated methods, so I really
can't justify the time to master it. Grade 3 just isn't prevalent enough to
pursue.

Hi Steve,
I get it. That’s my big pet Peeve with UEB, they just added a bunch of extra
dots and cells, that in my opinion are unnecessary. I find they just create
more clutter on the page.

Donna

Donna, I'm an avid eight dot Braillist. In fact, in some ways I hate
Grade 2. For example, why does it take two cells to create a capital
letter? In eight dot, I can just hold down dot 7 and type the letter,
so A is dots 1 and 7.
And who in the world thought of contracting the word It with an X? In
some ways, Grade 2 is stupid.
I know other words like Knowledge save space, but there are some
stupid things going on in Grade 2, so I use Computer Braille where I can.

Like I said, right space is space, left space is backspace and the

Then how do you enter a space?

I prefer the way the Esys range do it, using the two space bars for
Enter and the left space for backspace.
