Hi David and, all
I have seen this happen occasionally to, but according to Baum Germany staff
they identify this as a consistent problem which is why the patch was created.
Thanks.

Hi
I'm aware some of you have experienced difficulties connecting VU to
iOS11. I'm sharing the following as it may not be necessary to install
the patch in all cases. Thus potentially saving you the time and effort
of downloading and installing the update. This may not work for
everyone. I hope it is useful for someone.
This afternoon I successfully connected a VarioUltra 40 software version
1.42 to a client's iPhone 8 running iOS11.2.2. Crucially the iPhone had
not been previously connected to any braille display, including
VarioUltra. Plus the VU40 in question did not have the November 24 patch
installed. The VU was simply running the original 1.42 release from
September 19.
With VarioUltra discoverable in Settings> Bluetooth,I initiated the
pairing from iPhone> Settings> General> Accessibility> VoiceOver>
Braille. Everything worked as per the instructions in the VarioUltra
user guide. Except, iPhone popped up the dialogue incorrectly reporting
an unsuccessful connection. However, in Display mode on VarioUltra, we
could read VoiceOver output. So simply dismiss the dialog and carry on
as normal.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
