Anne reported seeing a flock of hundreds of grackles in Stoney Glen (original) when coming home two days ago and on the previous day I saw the same flock. Anne reported that the flock contained two red-winged blackbirds. I kept paging through the Audubon guide repeatedly with no luck - then a male red-winged blackbird appeared at the tray feeder - a bird I have never seen in my yard - and I thought - hmmm, maybe the other one was a female red-wing? And after checking, that was indeed what the first bird was! I guess they are looking around for food this cold morning. So I learned to identify a new bird and have new yard birds. Right now the blackbirds are still out there, as are blue jays, doves, cardinals, titmice, chickadees and finches all at once - the joy of working at home! Also had flocks of robins in the holly trees for the first time this winter over the weekend. Stay warm! Kathy Kreutzer Chesterfield
