The things I've read suggested leaving feeders down till April.  I have put
mine back up after disinfecting, but less densely.  For example I am not
putting the platform back up.  I have not seen sick birds lately thankfully.

Subject: [va-richmond-general] crusty-eye disease - is it safe yet?

A month or more ago, I took down all my feeders.   The sunflower and
safflower feeders went first, as I had not yet seen crusty eye on Goldfinches,
but a week later I did so the thistle feeders came down too.

I do have hummingbird feeders up since last weekend (no visitors yet but
hopefully soon).

I went a bit hog-wild this winter trying to increase my chances of attracting a
wide variety and higher volume of birds (it worked).  So now I have a pile of
platform, tray, tube and hopper feeders waiting to be scrubbed and disinfected.

But if the disease is still prevalent, I don't want my yard to become a dense
gathering place artificially.

I do have a lot of plantings that will attract a variety of birds later, once
flowering is in full bloom, but for now there's nothing really.

So I was wanting to ask:  is it safe yet to put a thistle feeder back
up?   I realize the Goldfinches do not need my help, it's just for mine
own enjoyment.

If not, I will wait til flowers will be blooming, and be patient and just enjoy
whatever comes to my yard naturally.

Thanks in advance,
