Yesterday's cold brought us a Hermit Thrush up on the deck for water, a Brown
Creeper on the big oak, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet in the sunflower seed feeder
(after bugs?) and a male Purple Finch. Lots of bird activity most of the day.

We heard a thud against the deck door late in the afternoon. A flicker had hit
and lay on the deck. We retrieved him, put him in a ventilated box with water
and food and crossed our fingers. This morning we released him out into a
chilly morning. He flew up into the hickory, looking pretty fit.
