Actually, the length of the day signals birds to move on. Temps are too
unpredictable and don’t correlate to availability of resources in their
wintering grounds. Temperature plays an indirect role, though, because
lower temps mean fewer bugs and seeds.
And again, eBird shows the White-throated Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos
began arriving on October 15, right on time. Just because they haven’t
showed in our yards doesn’t mean they’re not here. ☺️
