I looked it up again, and found that the Wawa site says that the word is
FROM a Lenni Lenape word for Canada goose. My guess is that the word
qua-haw-quunt that you mentioned got abbreviated and corrupted into Wawa
when it was used to name a town in Pennsylvania about two hours' drive
west from Philadelphia, and that the store/gasoline station got its name
from the town, Wawa, Pennsylvania.

I do like the name ka-hawk. That is what the creature says. We have some
birds named like that, such as chickadee [-deedee], cuckoo, and
whip-poor-will. If we named other birds like that, we would have
tatweetya for a Carolina wren, bert (with the r trilled) for a
red-bellied woodpecker, twitatwita for a cardinal, and oowicucucu for a
mourning dove.

Actually, although Wa-wa tells customers this, it isn't true. The
Algonquian language word (Lenni Lenape, or Delaware, is a very early
Algonquian
language, considered one of the mother variants) is "qua-haw-quunt".
The Powhatan
variant is "ka-hawk", anglicized to "cohonk" on the Eastern Shore. But
it makes for good marketing...:).
