Update on Purple Martins, Richmond, VA

_Monday, July 29, 2013_: Tonight 28 Purple Martins descended and perched temporarily in the Bradford Pear trees on 17^th Street in Shockoe Bottom. One Starling perched for some time on the south end of the trees while a Northern Mockingbird defended his territory at the north end. No hawks or falcons appeared.

While 28 birds is a small number, it is the first time that the birds have perched in three weeks of observation. Hopefully, by Aug 24th we will be seeing the normal number of thousands of birds.

Remember the Purple Martin Festival, Gone to the Birds will be Aug. 24th, Saturday, 6 to 9PM.
