I want to share an interesting observation I made about the birds at my
feeders. I've been feeding birds off and on for ~25 years now, and I've
encountered all the usual bullies, Blue Jays, Grackles, Starlings, etc.
This year, though, the bullies are Dark-eyed Juncos! The peaceful
terrestrial seed foragers have learned that the better seed comes directly
from the feeders, that suet is delicious, and that mealworms are awesome.
They dive bomb bigger birds and scare them off, even the Bluebirds
scatter. At my last house, just a mile away, it took three years for a
handful of Juncos to realize they can eat from the feeders; this year at my
current home, it took them just days.
