Yesterday in the torrential morning rain along Riverside I saw wood duck babies and a female common merganser that I was sure had departed already. Her crest was wet and bedraggled, but her white chin and neck were bright and easily seen. The pair she hung out with seems to have left some time ago, and she can fly. Not sure why she is hanging around. On the way back home there was one Eastern kingbird flycatching from one of the islands. The Wetlands was full of bird song and I saw a male indigo bunting hanging out with lots of yellow rumps over by the creek. Heard-onlys were red eyed vireo, white eyed vireo, common yellowthroat, yellow throated warbler, eastern towhees, field sparrow, barred owl, RS hawk, and yellow warbler. There were also RC kinglets, blue gray gnatcatchers, mallards, female red winged BB, cowbirds, WT sparrows, titmice, Car. Wrens and chickadees, cardinals, downies, red bellied, etc. The boardwalk is starting to disarticulate with the higher water levels. Watch your step! The railroad ties underneath have apparently begun to decay, but it is stable until a big rain event. There are also a couple of holes developing on the bridge to Pony Pasture where a couple of repairs are beginning to fail. Have a great day! Jan Richmond
