I want to go to Swift Creek but I’m not sure if my bins are powerful
enough. I have an upper entry level pair, the Celestron NatureDX 8x42, but
the last time I was there, my bins were woefully inadequate because the
birds were so far away. My husband has a pair of tactical 10x50. Would they
be powerful enough to see the birds (I know the drawbacks and limitations
of such power but there are some lifers out there ☺️)?

There is an unusual number of waterfowl on Swift Creek Reservoir now.
From the pulloff on Genito Rd, one can see many hundreds and even thousands
of distant waterfowl. Many are close enough to ID, and today this included
a juvenile Red-throated Loon! Also seen was a late Rough-winged Swallow.
Just after I got there Arun Bose pulled up and we spent time getting a
count of what we were seeing. Ebird list here
