went to back bay NWR in Sandbridge. a lot of loons on the Atlantic. some
longtails too. just sanderling on the beach. ruddy turnstones are prevelent
this year but not the strectch of beach parrallel to visitor center. some
female mergansers on the creek at the road to the visitor center. there are
loons and scaup in yorktown area. There was only one of the usual big rafts of
watefowl off the parkway. Got a good view of 5 bufflehead in creek off colonial
parkway the yorktown to williamsburg part. the one raft of hundreds of
waterfowl was too far away without a scopeand it was cloudy in the area. was
able to identify a pintail that was a little closer to shore than the rest of
the birds. i suspect a lot of waterfowl and Tundra Swans are on the upper
chesapeake and in delaware bay and long island sound areas with the lack of
long cold spells this winter. did not see a single Tundra Swan off the parkway.
Sincerely,

Tyler Turpin
