Not a whole lot of bird activity going on in this early part of summer but we do have a very active pair of Catbirds frequenting the suet and aggressively enjoying the birdbaths. We have hatched our second brood of Bluebirds and they are ready to bust out of their house at any moment as we can see the young beaks peeking at us from the driveway. Last week we had a nice surprise as a Barred Owl flew out of the backyard, pounced on an unsuspecting mole or toad and then took his prey to a snag right in front of the porch. The Owl sat up there eating his catch for 15 minutes or so and then silently flew across the road. Flying squirrels are out every night taking inches off the tube feeder's sunflower level or munching on suet. Julie Kacmarcik Chester You are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
