Hello All,

I’ve received a request for a speaker on bird watching at my workplace.  Holly
Tiller, a coordinator with Morale, Welfare and Recreation at the Defense Supply
Center Richmond (DSCR, aka Bellwood/Defense General Supply Center), has passed
along the following to me:

“I am going to advertise it as a good way to enjoy the outdoors and relieve a
little stress at the same time. I would like the speaker to talk about how to
bird-watch; if there are any techniques that work best; and what tools, if any,
a person should have (binoculars, notebook, camera, etc.). What times
of day are best and what kind of environment, if not their own back yard, and
some of the best place in Virginia if they are interested in taking a drive?

“If there are clubs, how do they find them, so that they might go out with an
experienced bird-watcher?

“I usually tell people to plan for about 45 minutes and then Q&A after.”

Holly would like to arrange to have the one-hour seminar in May or June.  If
May is feasible, she needs to know by early April.  For a June seminar, the
deadline is early May.  Seminars are usually held from 12:00 to 1:00.  If the
weather is agreeable, the seminar can be held outside.

If anyone is interested in sharing birding knowledge, or needs a credit hour
towards their Master Naturalist accreditation, or wants to see what wildlife
DSCR has, please let me and/or Holly know.

A one-day pass will be arranged for you to get on the base.  All you need is a
current ID, and proof of insurance and current vehicle registration information
if you’re driving.

Please contact me or Holly (email address in cc:) if you would like to
participate.

Thanks!

Andrea Conkle
