Birdseed in a cake pan on top of the snow within arm reach from my balcony door attracted juncos, cardinals and assorted sparrows. My cat, as always, prefers the squirrels. Maybe today will yield more variety. Our yard snow birds included a couple hundred grackles, and a pair of of Rusty Blackbirds. All birds were eager visitors to any seed or suet we provided today. Grackles seemed to be the number one most abundant bird, but a watchful Cooper's Hawk kept them in check. A Red-shouldered Hawk kept watch most of the day. Suet was the biggest draw with Pine warbler, Ruby-crowned kinglet, Bluebird and Downy's nibbling all day. My best superstars were the Brown-headed Nuthatches enjoying seed and suet. Stay warm and enjoy the snow. JulieK Chester
