Opened nets this morning to "deafening" cicada's and a pair of Barred Owls "cooking for you" in the woodland. Today was a make-up day for a rain-out we had in early August. With humidity at 91% it was all but raining. It has been a harsh season of heat and humidity but the MAPS' volunteers maintain their constant dedication to our project.
Still hearing Yellow-throated warbler, Blue-grey Gnatcatcher, Indigo Bunting and Summer Tanager. The Prothonotary song is noticeably absent however we did net several dispersing fledglings. Looked like a pretty good storm blew through the park as we removed trees and branches from net lanes this morning as well as raising nets to avoid puddles of water.
Will be interesting to see the season totals in comparison to last year, for now here is the wrap up for today.
Thanks to the tireless volunteers who kept the enthusiasm and commitment for another successful season.
As usual here are today's stats and a few images.
