After a week at the Outer Banks we came home on Saturday night fully
expecting that most if not all our winter guests will be no longer here but
much to our delight the adult male Baltimore Oriole showed up for his grape
jelly and Coe suet breakfast this morning. The Hermit Thrush is still
hanging around but the Red- breasted Nuthatch, Pine Siskin and Purple Finch
did not show up today.
Another pleasant surprise was a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird that checked
out the oriole feeder and made us scramble to put up our hummingbird
feeders and he came to them soon after. The summer guest season has begun.

Today's hummer came to kitchen window and to sunflower feeder that hasn't
been swapped out yet. We still have 6-12 evening grosbeaks at feeders in
the morning. Put out sugar water immediately. Looking forward to tomorrow.
If you consider birding the Chickahominy, wood ducks are house hunting in
trees.
